Starr became one of our Foundation Mares when we purchased Nola AD. Although our focus was initially on Nola, we knew Starr was special. After Nola was weaned, our interactions with the matriarch were limited to occasional greetings as we passed her pasture. Regal as ever, she paid us no mind.
Two years later, Vicki Duzac, Starr’s owner, reached out to Aset Egyptian Arabians as she downsized. After careful consideration, she chose us to provide Starr with her forever home. We were thrilled and deeply honored.
Given that we already owned Nola, Sara and Wendy thought it would be fitting for Sara’s husband, Ray, to have a horse in his name. Thus, on Ray’s birthday, Aset transferred ownership from AEA to him. It turned out to be the BEST decision since Starr instantly bonded with Ray like no other. While Ray’s passion lies with Mustangs, he was undeniably captivated by Starr from the moment he took her off the trailer. Sara’s love for Arabians was inspired by Walter Farley’s “The Black Stallion,” and it is evident that Starr and Ray share the same profound connection described by Jim, the newspaperman, in the story: “Jim – even though he has seen many horses, still finds something special in the Black and Alec” (Walter Farley, “The Black Stallion”).
Ray bred Starr to Luxe RCA that year, and beautiful grey filly was born in 2022, who has grown into such a lovely mare in her own right. Starr was bred one more time to Magic Elixir in 2023, and after giving birth to her last filly, She ended a long and accomplished career as a broodmare. Starr now enjoys the peaceful life of being nanny to our younger foals.
